Anodised
Anodising is an electrolytic treatment of metal, primarily aluminium and its alloys, which results in the creation of an aluminium oxide layer on its surface. The object immersed in the electrolytic bath functions as the anode, and the electrolyte is sulphuric acid. Components made from aluminium with minimal alloy additions are covered with a colourless oxide layer, whereas those made from aluminium containing high amounts of dopants such as manganese, silicon or copper, are covered with a grey oxide layer. By adding colouring agents to the electrolyte, indelible, coloured coatings can be produced on the surface.
